As July begins, I hope many of you are enjoying the summer with your family and friends. If youre looking for rewarding experiences close to home, visit Montgomery College! We are a great place for summer fun!
Next week, the Germantown Campus will host its annual Chautauqua series. As the former vice president and provost of that campus, I always looked forward to welcoming the community to the annual family-friendly event.
This year, actor-scholars will portray historical figures Thurgood Marshall, Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., and Sacagawea. Chautauqua runs July 7 through 9, starting each night at 7.
For theatre lovers, I recommend Summer Dinner Theatre, a wonderful tradition at the College for 34 years. Starting July 16, the staging of the musical Crazy for You will train aspiring actors and behind-the-sciences technicians.

I want to thank everyone involved who works diligently to make those programs available for our own College community and the surrounding community.
I also heard some very good news recently about several of the Colleges significant grant applications.
I am pleased to share with you that our Adult ESOL and Literacy Programs received a significant
$2.2 million grant from the State of Marylands Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation. The grant renews and substantially increases our grant funding for our career and post-secondary transition programs and will allow us to continue offering over 11,000 seats in our language and literacy programs at 20 different county locations.
The College also recently secured a two-year grant totaling $200,000 from The NASDAQ OMX Educational Foundation. That money is the Foundations second grant to the College, and both grants support an endowed scholarship fund for our Macklin Business Institute students.
These grants are just two of the most recent awards that the College has received. This past year alone, our grants office has worked exceptionally hard to secure over $8 million in federal and state funding for our academic programs.
I am always proud of the work performed each and every day by the faculty, staff, and administrators at this College.
